“Aliferous” is an unofficial, physical, for-profit zine dedicated to the romantic relationship between the male traveler, Aether, and the Vigilant Yaksha, Xiao. As a collaborative project, it will contain art and writing from a variety of artists and writers from across the fandom, which will be compiled into a book to be printed and sold alongside various physical merchandise. It is our hope that the finished book will be a love letter to Xiao and Aether's relationship!

⬥ What is a zine?

A zine (short for "magazine" or "fanzine") is a collaborative project where artists and writers create works centered around a certain theme, character, ship, etc. The works are then compiled into a book, which is usually sold alongside accompanying merchandise.

⬥ Are AUs allowed in the zine?

Yes! Feel free to get imaginative with your ideas!

⬥ How old do I need to be to apply?

Due to the zine being for profit, contributors must be at least 18 years old by the time applications close to be considered.

⬥ How will contributors be compensated?

Every contributor will be guaranteed a physical copy of the zine at least (shipping not included). If funds allow, that will be upgraded to a full bundle, including shipping cost. Any profit left over after shipping out orders and gifting contributor bundles will then be split evenly among the mods and contributors as additional compensation.

⬥ Can I include non-Xiaoaexiao ships in my piece?

Other ships are acceptable so long as they are kept to the background. Xiao and Aether should be the primary ship featured in all works.

⬥ Will applicants be turned away for their ship or content preferences?

Applicants' ship and content preferences outside of the zine will not have any bearing on the mods' decisions, and applicants will not be rejected from the zine for any content they create or consume in their personal time.

⬥ Will the zine contain NSFW content?

Aliferous is a SFW only project and will not contain NSFW content.

⬥ Will an applicant's follower count affect their chances of being accepted?

Individual follower counts will not be considered when the mods are going through applications, meaning that high follower accounts will not be prioritized over low follower accounts or vice versa.

⬥ Do I need previous zine experience to participate?

Previous zine experience is not required to apply for Aliferous.

⬥ Will this zine feature switch shipping? (xiaoae vs aexiao)

Due to Aliferous being a SFW zine, top/bottom dynamics are not applicable and we will not be limiting the zine to one specific dynamic. While we acknowledge that characterization can differ based on creators' individual headcanons, we do not wish to limit our content to certain characterizations, nor do we wish to exclude members of the community who prefer one dynamic over another.

⬥ GENERAL GUIDELINES ⬥

- Applicants must be at least 18 years old by the end of the application period (May 15th). Please do not lie about or misrepresent your age on your application.
- Please make sure your samples and portfolios are accessible. If sharing via Google Drive, ensure that sharing is set to "anyone with this link can view". Portfolios that are inaccessible or password protected may be disqualified.
- Please submit only your own work! Do not submit samples that are drawn fully or partially by another artist (ie collab pieces).
- This zine is a safe for work zine. If your portfolio or samples contain NSFW or potentially triggering content, please tag them in the name of your file or in the text of your document where it is easily visible by the mods.
- A sample featuring Genshin Impact characters is encouraged but not required. Applications that do not feature Genshin Impact characters will not be disqualified or docked points.

⬥ PAGE ARTIST GUIDELINES ⬥

- Please submit a portfolio containing 3-10 pieces of art that you consider to be your best work.
- The art in your portfolio should reflect the style and quality that you intend to bring to a finished piece for the zine.
- Traditional art is acceptable so long as a high-quality scan can be created from it.
- At least one sample should feature a fully rendered background.
- At least one sample should feature more than one character.

⬥ MERCH ARTIST GUIDELINES ⬥

- Please submit a portfolio containing 3-10 pieces of art that you consider to be your best work.
- Merch artists may submit photographs of finished merch pieces or files of the images themselves.
- Please submit samples of the merch you would like to create for the zine. For example, if you plan to create a print, please include examples of past prints you have created in your portfolio.

⬥ WRITER GUIDELINES ⬥

- Please submit three samples of what you believe to be your best work.
- Each individual sample should not exceed 2.5k words.
- At least one sample must be a finished piece, not an excerpt. All other samples can be excerpts from longer works.

⬥ CONTRIBUTOR EXPECTATIONS ⬥

- Accepted page artists will be expected to create one single-page illustration in full detail, including a fully rendered background.
- Accepted merch artists will be expected to create 2-3 pieces of merch based on the existing merch lineup listed in the application.
- Accepted writers will be expected to write one standalone fic of about 2k words.
- All contributors will be expected to adhere to the project schedule to the best of their ability, which includes checking in with the mod team periodically to share progress on a piece and communicating check in delays in a timely fashion.
- Aliferous will be accepting 4-5 writers, 15-16 artists, and 3-4 merch artists.
